We wrapped up the final week of the winter session of my Women's Virtual Putting League a couple weeks ago. For the first time ever, we had a sudden-death playoff in each of the three separate pools!!
Week 8 was another wildcard week where every woman gets 50 putts to spend any way she likes, at any distance the league putts from. Putts must be made in increments of 5. Each distance has a different point assigned to it:
10' & 15' are 1 point each
20' putts are worth 2 points each
25' 3 points
30' 4 points each
A lot of ladies choose to play it a little more conservatively this time around, given how close all of our leaderboards were heading into the last week.
The top spot in A pool was pretty much sealed going into the final week of league, but all of the other cash spots were up for grabs. Corey putt early and ran all of hers from 25', racking up 117 points!! That catapult her up in the standings quite a bit.
Allie took all of her putts from 30' scoring 100 points. Between Corey and Allie I knew I needed a big score to cash so I decided to run all of my putts from 30'. I managed to sink 33 for a total of 132 points! That put me in a tie with Allie for the 2nd place spot and we headed into a sudden death playoff.
Allie set a new league record scoring 136 points going 34-of-50 from 30' in our playoff. I came up a bit short trying to match or beat her. Congrats Allie!
Robin walked away with the first place spot, setting a regular-week putting record of 112 points this session .
Our B pool ladies finish the season with a bang! Lauralee set two records over the course of the season- 85 points in a regular week and 102 points in a wildcard week. Her putting was all season long, and she easily captured our top spot.
But, paying down 10 spots meant most other cash positions were up for grabs! The ladies were split fairly evenly over whether they decided to risk longer putts of 25' or 30' for more maximum potential points OR take all their putts from 20' for more assured points.
We saw a few ladies take that risk and come up a bit short, falling down in the standings. But for some it paid off and they climbed up the leaderboard into a cash spot or higher cash spot.
We had a tie between Sadie & Paulina for 4th place, so they headed to a sudden death playoff. Paulina took all of her putts from 25', sinking half for 75 points. Sadie played it a bit safer and took her putts from 20' sinking 45-of-50 for 90 points! Her level of focus was so impressive!
The final week in C pool was especially exciting because ALL spots were up for grabs, even the top spot. The top 10 players were separated by about 20 points, meaning anything could happen!
Most of the ladies played it safer and took their putts from 20'. It was great to see them making such measured decisions! But there were a few who risked taking some of their putts at longer distances.
We had a tie for 4th place between Heather & Jennifer, who went into a sudden death playoff. Heather took a huge gamble running all of her putts from 25', scoring 75 points and setting a new league record!! Jennifer set a regular season record of 69 points earlier in the season, but couldn't compete with Heather's hot score.
Amanda walked away with our top spot, winning by just 8 points over Amber!
